How to Pack Books when Moving

How to Pack Books when Moving

You might be an avid reader or someone who really doesn’t find time to read much. Regardless of this fact, we all have books at our home and when ever a move comes up, the question of efficiently packing these books may arise.

Here are a few guidelines that will help you pack your books so that they don’t get damaged and will also help you in reducing your moving cost.

Evaluate – Books are all kinds ranging from Novels, Magazines, Educational and so on. The first thing to do is to analyze the value of each book at your home. Books are heavy when bundled up and they have a higher relative density and also occupy more space. This means that when you move, either pay more for the weight or you pay more for the cubic feet based on how your moving price is calculated. So the best thing to do is to get rid of books that have no preservation value. You also need to consider the amount of space available for your books at your new home.

Packing – You need to find a strong box with a solid base. Books get very heavy when you pile them up and you need to reduce the chances of the bottom giving away when loading and unloading. Based on the size of your books you can choose small to medium sized boxes. Some people make the mistake of packing all the books into one huge box making it virtually impossible to carry. When placing the books in the box, distribute the weight evenly on all sides of the box. Place the heavier books at the bottom and the lighter ones at the top to prevent damage. Stack them up in such a way so that the spines and the open edges don’t get damaged. You can also bubble wrap books which have delicate and expensive bindings. Secure the box with liberal use of tape.
