How to Pack Lamps for a Move, the Right Way!
Lamps are one of the most difficult items to pack when you move. They are an awkward shape and very fragile. If you don’t pack lamps for a move properly, they will likely break in transit.
Luckily, there are a few simple tips that help you properly pack lamps, so they don’t break.
Pack Each Part of the Lamp Separately
Your first instinct may be to pack the entire lamp together, but it is actually better to take the lamp apart. Pack each piece of the lamp separately.
Take the bulb out of the lamp, remove the lampshade, and wrap the cord around the base of the lamp. You may want to secure the cord onto the base of the lamp with painter’s tape, so you don’t ruin the finish.
After the lamp is disassembled, you can wrap each part individually in bubble wrap or paper. If you’re using paper to wrap the lampshade, make sure it is plain paper rather than a newspaper.
The print from the newspaper can easily transfer onto the lampshade and ruin it.
To make sure the base of the lamp is protected, wrap the bubble wrap all the way around the bottom and edges. Make sure every part of the lamp is covered. Then use a generous amount of tape to secure the bubble wrap in place.

Get the Proper Box
One of the most important things to consider when you pack lamps for a move is the box you pack them in. Lamps aren’t a standard shape, and you need to find the right box that will fit them without damaging them.
If you get free boxes from your local liquor store or grocery store, you’re more likely to find uniquely shaped boxes that fit your lamp better than a traditional box you buy from moving companies.

Use Towels or Bubble Wrap to Fill Empty Spaces
Your lamp most likely won’t fill the entire box. To protect it during the moving process, use towels, bubble wrap, and other soft objects to fill the remaining space in the box.
This helps pad the lamp and prevent it from shifting and breaking during the move.
Mark Boxes as Fragile
When you pack lamps for a move, it is important you remember to mark the box as fragile and indicate what side of the box is the top.
This lets the movers know they need to be careful when moving the box. If you forget to mark fragile on the box, you can’t guarantee your lamps will make it to your new home in one piece even if you wrapped them properly.
Conclusion
Packing lamps for a move may seem like a difficult task, but it actually isn’t.
As long as you focus on packing each piece of the lamp separately you will be fine. If you’re using boxes, make sure they are packed tight. You can use towels and blankets if needed.
