Angleton was appointed as the county seat in 1896 and re-elected by county-wide election in 1913, sparking a fierce feud between the town and neighboring Brazoria. On November 12, 1912, the town was established. Angleton stages the Brazoria County Fair, Texas’s biggest county fair, each October as the county seat. Take to the Race Track
If you like the odor of fuel and burning tires, and the sensation of wind rushing into your face as you drive around a hairpin corner, then MSR Houston is the place for you.

The more than 44,000-acre refuge, situated just 20 miles east of Angleton, is habitat to more than 300 bird species, as well as bobcats, coyotes, river otters, and alligators, across the year.
The refuge’s diverse population of wildlife renders it a must-see for animal lovers, especially photographers. A few miles of hiking and riding trails provide plenty of opportunities to explore the reserve on your own, no matter what season it is. Only remember to bring your camera with you.
Angleton’s Crocodile Encounter
Crocodiles and alligators are two of evolution’s most ferocious predators, so seeing one up close is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and Angleton’s Crocodile Encounter just does that.
You will have the opportunity to watch and educate about six different species of crocodilians as they eat and bask in the sun at its isolated facility, which is situated on a rural farm-to-market road just 10 minutes north of town.
There are up to 15 kinds of turtles and tortoises, most of which you can feed romaine lettuce to, and also lizards, snakes, and a few mammals, in addition to the large reptiles.

The History of Angleton
Angleton is located in the heart of Brazoria County, an area that played a significant role in Texas’ early history.
The region was among the first to be inhabited by Americans, was host to the Republic of Texas’ first capital, West Columbia, and became one of the republic’s first counties after it won independence from Mexico in 1836.
